‘Harry Potter And the Cursed Child’ will make its long-awaited Australian debut in Melbourne in 2019, with the play’s official show dates just announced.
The stage story of the world’s most famous wizard will open at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on 16th January for a series of preview performances, before a regular schedule of shows begins in February.

‘Harry Potter And the Cursed Child’ opened in London in July 2016, and follows on from J.K. Rowling’s books. Melbourne will be the third city to host the show, which won Best Play and Best Director at the Tony Awards earlier this year.
While the characters of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger all feature in the play, the narrative focuses more on their children, as they undertake their first year at the Hogwarts School of Witchraft and Wizardry. The full cast is yet to be announced.
In a statement, the show’s original producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said they’re working close with Princess Theatre’s operators to make the show as magical as possible.
“Our design team have been working closely with the Princess to renovate and redesign parts of the theatre – to not only make it more comfortable for audiences but add an additional touch of magic to the beautiful landmark,” they said.
“We look forward to sharing more production news over the coming months.”
Because the play is being shown in two parts, audience members can see parts one and two together on the same day, or over consecutive evenings. They can also see the two parts separately on non-consecutive days, or watch the parts individually.
