Kony’s ‘Voodoo Magic’ May Have Caused Jason Russell’s Meltdown

Jospeh Kony may have performed ‘voodoo magic’ on Jason Russell causing the Invisible Children’s campaign guru to lose it, TMZ reports. Ex child soldier of the Kony army, Richard Akena, spoke with the gossip site telling them that “This [Russell’s meltdown] was Kony’s doing.”

Akena told TMZ that Kony often performed Voodoo Magic on his African enemies as a tool of war and he believes he would have done the same to Russell.

However, Jason Russell’s family think differently. His wife recently released a statement blaming little to no sleep and stress as the reason for his breakdown and doctors have now diagnosed him with brief reactive psychosis.

Statement from Russell’s wife:

We would, again, like to make it clear that Jason’s incident was in no way the result of drugs or alcohol. The preliminary diagnosis he received is called brief reactive psychosis, an acute state brought on by the extreme exhaustion, stress and dehydration. Though new to us, the doctors say this is a common experience given the great mental, emotional and physical shock his body has gone through in these last two weeks. Even for us, it’s hard to understand the sudden transition from relative anonymity to worldwide attention -both raves and ridicules, in a matter of days.

The KONY 2012 campaign, which was scheduled for April 20th, is now in turmoil, Reuters reports. The Invisible Children’s office in San Diego has been locked up when just a few weeks ago it was buzzing with activity and excitement about the KONY 2012 campaign. A spokesperson for Invisible Children would not confirm with Reuters if the day of action would still go ahead.

All the attention has caused some action, however. CNN reports that The African Union will deploy 5,000 troops in a bid to catch Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army.
