Remember the days when public art was something you found in a Melbourne laneway?
Those days are over!
The City of Sydney is continuing to fund some seriously exciting public art projects, and their latest, We Make This City, gets bonus Music Feeds points for its focus on sustainability and climate change.
Here’s the word from the City of Sydney crew:
“We are very pleased to celebrate the next stage of Taylor Square Art with the unveiling of Drift, a site-specific installation by David Cross.
“Drift is part of We Make This City, a program curated by the College of Fine Arts which examines our responses to climate change.
“We Make This City is a program of four unique and imaginative artworks which combat the fear, risk and inertia around climate change with trust, beauty, community and action.
“Following the unveiling, you can meet the artists at Lo-Fi, 383 Bourke Street, Darlinghurst until 8pm.”
Fingers crossed We Make This City inspires more wide-scale art projects that take place outside gallery spaces and reach out to new layers of audiences. And three cheers for the ongoing beautification and creative invasion of Sydney’s streets, lanes, walls and outdoor spaces! Good public art makes our city richer and more liveable. After all, we make this city.
