Hey Fever – Loving life and drinking more

Melbourne indie rock outfit Hey Fever have released a new single and are going to be giving us a chance to hear it as they play shows along the east coast. Sam Panetta from the band gave us a few minutes to tell us all about the new song Ask Me; why his band mate is creepy; and why they love playing at the World Bar in Sydney.

MF: What’s new with Hey Fever?

SP: We finally recorded six songs, released one of them, and filmed a video for it. So far, this has really worked out well for us. We have a lot more gigs.

We have a lot more people at gigs. We get to go around Australia again. We have a new bass guitarist. We are all loving life and drinking more.

Things are really good.

MF: Tell us about the new single Ask Me; what’s it about?

SP: When writing the lyric for the chorus, I just remember I really wanted someone to ask me a certain question, but they never would.

Ben wrote the first two verses, and that guys seriously creepy. But the music and words worked well together. So we let the creepiness in.

MF: How would describe Hey Fever’s sound to the guy at the bar?

SP: I can never ever hear anything the bar tender says to me at most clubs. I would awkwardly avoid the question, agree headshake and thumbs up, while moving quickly back to my group of friends to drink.

MF: You’re on tour supporting the new single; what do you look forward to about the upcoming shows?

SP: I really enjoy rowdy crowds, the type that jump up, on and around the stage, and like to move a little. We were blessed with this last time we were at The World Bar. I really hope this happens again.

MF: With Xmas coming up, what do Hey Fever hope the fat man in a red suit will bring?

SP: Free plane tickets to every state and territory forever.

MF: What can readers who come to the show at MUM @ World Bar on the 29th expect from Hey Fever?

SP: Thinking back, out of our five band members, only two of them have been asked to leave, having been to World Bar three times. This may occur again.

We also have a new bassist and I haven’t seen him at his worst yet. I pray this happens. It’s the Halloween gig, people freak out in costumes. Can’t wait.

MF: Finally, if you were to make a mix tape, what’s the first track you’d put on there?

SP: In my current mood I would say Link Wray – Rumble, 1958 heaven.

Hey Fever play Mum @ Worldbar this Friday 29th October
