Many of us can link a certain album to pivotal moments in our lives. Whether it’s the first record you bought with your own money, the chord you first learnt to play on guitar, the song that soundtracked your first kiss, the album that got you those awkward and painful pubescent years or the one that set off light bulbs in your brain and inspired you to take a big leap of faith into the unknown – music is often the catalyst for change in our lives and can even help shape who we become.
In this series, Music Feeds asks artists to reflect on their relationship with music and share with us stories about the effect music has had on their lives.
Kane Brown, IVY – The Black Keys’ Magic Potion
The title of this album says it all, and this to me is magic.
This album is The Black Keys at their best, driving blues riffs, slap back delays and charismatic drum beats. All in all makes the album stand out from start to finish.
It’s funny how music played in its rawest and simplest form can have so much effect on listeners. I for one am a big fan of the Keys, but their earlier stuff I always tend to enjoy a lot more.
Magic Potion is a hard-hitting wake up call to rock n’ roll, letting us know that you do only need a guitar and drums.
Songs like ‘The Flame’ and ‘You’re The One’ are slow burners that bare the soul of authentic blues influences. But tunes like ‘Your Touch’ and ‘Goodbye Babylon’ jump back into the pool of good old rock n’ roll and you find yourself losing control of your feet.
I’ll leave it at. I enjoy music I don’t got to think too much about and this album definitely does deliver that.
