PREMIERE: Wing Defence Explore The Melancholy Of Modern Dating On ‘Cuts’

On their newest, ‘Cuts’, Wing Defence take a look at the pitfalls of modern dating, inspired by member Skye Walter’s “two week stint” on dating app Tinder, as well as “emphatically including the on-going experiences of her friends who have also dabbled with the fickle and rather disappointing outcomes.”

As sardonic as it is sincere, the latest single from the Adelaide duo, taken from their forthcoming debut EP, is pure melancholic pop-punk.

An evolution for the collaborative project of songwriters Walter and Paige Court, ‘Cuts’ sees Wing Defence a year since their formation. Having spent time on stages alongside the likes of Polish Club and fellow South Australians West Thebarton, as well as the South Australian legs of Laneway and Groovin The Moo festivals, ‘Cuts’ follows debut single ‘Stuck’, along with ‘Listerine’ and ‘Hindsight’.

The ultra-charming DIY music video for ‘Cuts’, which we’re premiering today, was crafted by Court herself, drawing the 100+ animations contained.

“Creating the clip was about challenging myself to do something I hadn’t done before and the idea of an animation video was cool,” says Court. “I like to draw for fun and to cope with external things so I combined all that to create the video.”

Wing Defence will launch the new single with a hometown launch show at Crown and Anchor in Adelaide on Friday, 13th September. They’ll be joined by Superdose Gangway and Burnout. You can grab tickets here through Eventbrite.
