PREMIERE: Melbourne Nu-Metallers Druid Share “Claustrophobic” Video For ‘Hostage’

Druid have shared their first new music of 2025 – a single titled ‘Hostage’ – and Music Feeds are sharing the song’s official music video with you today (April 2nd) ahead of its official release tomorrow. The track follows on from last year’s ‘Chokehold’, and is described by the Melbourne nu-metal band as dealing with “the dark side of what happens when you’re not dealing with your problems”. “The aftermath is those deep and tormented parts of yourself, that run through your veins and you can’t get away from,” says Chris Mercuri – one of the band’s two lead vocalists.

“This song is about becoming a hostage to your inner thoughts and the voices that tell you that you can’t do something, and the struggles that come with building your own inner prison from drugs, alcohol and other vices in a fruitless effort to silence said thoughts and voices.”

Speaking about the creation of the video for ‘Hostage’, rhythm guitarist Daeyul Baggins noted that the band “wanted to capture the intensity of the lyrics” with the song’s visuals. “The band performance is shot inside an open room walled by chains, created by designer Renee Schulz,” he explains.

“She aimed to create a feeling of depth, whilst also having the feeling of being trapped in a small, tight space. Our director, Martin Wood, edited the raw footage heavily to intensify the claustrophobia. We hope it leaves our fans with an experience that assaults the ears and eyes with heavy music and visual ferocity.”

Next month will see the band play ‘Hostage’ live for the first time as part of the TIC’d Off mini-festival, taking place on Saturday, May 3rd at the Golden Vine Hotel in Bendigo. They will be joined on the line-up by the likes of fellow Melbourne band Orpheus Omega, Wollongong’s Alienist and Albury “electronic metal” quartet Trancestate. Tickets are on sale now via Humanitix.
