’13 Reasons Why’ Soundtrack Artist Car Seat Headrest Trashes ’13 Reasons Why’

In a bit of a shock move, Car Seat Headrest has spoken out against ’13 Reasons Why’ despite lending a song to the soundtrack of the insanely popular Netflix series.

For the uninitiated, the controversial Selena Gomez-produced teen drama has copped heat from mental health groups, schools, concerned parents (the list goes on) for allegedly glamourising suicide with its tale of a high school girl who decides to takes her own life (New Zealand have even banned their kids from watching it without parental supervision).

And despite licensing an original track — ‘Oh! Starving’ — to the show’s soundtrack, the Laneway 2017 act has now backflipped on their involvement, slamming ’13 Reasons Why’ in a statement via Twitter.

“As someone who contributed to the soundtrack for ’13 Reasons Why’, I am obliged to tell you all that it’s kind of fucked,” frontman Will Toledo writes. “Writers: please don’t tell kids how to turn their miserable and hopeless lives into a thrilling and cathartic suicide mission. kids: this is not a narrative you need to subscribe to. go watch ‘spring breakers’ instead.”

Ouch.
