Peep The NSW Govt’s Plan To Reinvigorate Sydney Nightlife And Live Music

The 24-Hour Economy Strategy is the New South Wales government’s new action plan to help the “24-hour economy to thrive”. There are five key points to it and each, the government says, will target a distinct opportunity for the city.

Basically, the 24-Hour Economy Strategy is the government’s plan to give Sydney’s nightlife, live music scene, and economy, in general, a helping hand to get back on its feet.

They’ve outlined a decent list of ways they’re planning to do it, which you can catch down below. The main takeaways though are reviewing the current regulations for live music venues around noise and liquor licensing, relaxing regulations for food trucks and pop up stalls, and they’re planning to support “globally significant events”, both homegrown and international.

As well as that, they’re also saying they’ll be extending late-night public transport options and plan to enhance parking options for the nighttime hubs.

“There is no denying Sydney is one of the best cities in the world, but we need to continue to do everything we can to ensure the jewel in our crown continues to shine both day and night,” said NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres says Sydney deserves a global, 24-hour city.

“We are going to turbocharge Sydney by working closely with industry and councils to implement the 39 actions across the Strategy’s five strategic pillars so the productivity of the night can rival that of the day to create more employment opportunities in arts, entertainment and cultural events throughout the evening.

“COVID-19 has hit the tourism, hospitality and the arts sectors hard. This Strategy sets out a pathway to activate home-grown events that create safe opportunities for people to enjoy across Greater Sydney.”

Sydney’s Lockout Laws were scrapped back in January, barring Kings Cross, just two months before the COVID-19 pandemic royally stuffed it for everyone.
