A 28-year-old man who allegedly sold Mac Miller the pills that led to the rapper’s death in 2018 was arrested yesterday by federal prosecutors on federal drug charges.
A criminal complaint filed in the Central District of California alleges that a Hollywood Hills Man, Cameron James Pettit, sold Miller the counterfeit oxycodone that was laced with fentanyl, an opioid that is said to be 50 times stronger than heroin.
Miller was pronounced dead at his Studio City, California home on 7th September 2018 after being found unresponsive. An autopsy later revealed that there fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol was in the rapper’s system.
According to federal prosecutors, Pettit allegedly gave the rapper pills that contained fentanyl, cocaine and Xanax instead of the Percocet he was asking for.
After Miller’s death, Pettit allegedly direct messaged a friend on Instagram saying “Most likely I will die in jail.” He is alleged to have followed that message up with “I’m gonna get off the grid. Move to another country.”
According to TMZ, the complaint alleges that Pettit is one of three people responsible for Miller’s death.
A search warrant affidavit mentions that Miller was also given drugs by a sex worker he spent the evening with a few nights before his death.
Pettit was arrested on Wednesday morning by DEA agents and officers from the LAPD. He is set for an initial appearance in federal court on Wednesday afternoon. The other two people allegedly connected to Miller’s death have not been charged or arrested.
