After 25 Years, Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Has Finally Gone #1

Mariah Carey has been the recipient of an unexpected Christmas miracle, with her ubiquitous festive bop ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ topping the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, 25 years after its initial release.

According to Billboardthe Chrissy pop opus has also just officially set a new record for the longest time a song has ever taken to go #1 on the chart.

Not even its stint in the beloved 2003 holiday flick Love Actually could get it there.

But in the year 2019, it’s finally happened.

Apparently ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ was ineligible for the Hot 100 when it initially came out all the way back in 1994, because it was an album cut as opposed to a “commercial single”. But since then, the rules have changed, putting it back in the game.

Some people are crediting Mariah Carey releasing her Merry Christmas (Deluxe 25th Anniversary Edition) with boosting the song to the number #1 spot, but we choose to believe that a viral festive mashup with Marilyn Manson’s ‘The Beautiful People’ also had a part to play (listen below).

Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.
