Brittany Howard, best known as lead vocalist and guitarist for Grammy-winning group Alabama Shakes, has today announced news of her debut solo record.
Titled Jaime, we can expect the record to be in our hot little hands officially on Friday, 20 September via Columbia Records and Sony Music Australia.
The album was recorded after a huge cross country drive she took. The trip began in Nashville, and saw her head to a small house in Topanga, California. The record is named after her sister, who taught her to play the piano and write poetry. Her sister died of cancer when they were teenagers.
“The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being,” says Howard. “But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.”
For the record, she worked with a live band comprised of Alabama Shakes bassist Zac Cockrell, jazz keyboard player Robert Glasper and drummer Nate Smith.
Alongside news of the record, she’s also given us a first taste of what’s to come with ‘History Repeats’.
