Arcade Fire’s Will Butler Expected James Murphy To Be “Hipster Douchebag”

Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist William Butler has revealed in an interview with the The Guardian that he initially misjudged Reflektor producer James Murphy, thinking the former LCD Soundsystem frontman would be a “hipster douchebag.”

“I always imagined he and LCD would be kind of insufferable,” said Butler. “And he actually said the same about us – that people were talking so much about [us] before he had heard or seen us that he was like: ‘Oh, God damn it…why are these stupid bands doing stuff with xylophone?'”

Any misconceptions were quickly erased however, after the two artists met, “And then he saw us and thought: ‘Wait, that’s Arcade Fire?’ And I did the same: ‘Wait, that’s the guy that I thought would be this hipster douchebag that I wanted to punch in the face and the balls at the same time? Great!'”

Arcade Fire’s Reflektor, for which the band worked with the DFA Records owner, is set for release in Australia this Friday, 1st November. You can check out Music Feeds‘ first impressions of the album right here.
