Bluesfest 2017 Lineup Expands With Two Legendary Acts

UPDATE 05/10/16: Bluesfest 2017 just got even bigger, with the addition of the legendary Neil Young act as the Byron Bay festival’s headline act.

Bluesfest 2017 organisers have just unveiled their third lineup announcement and man, it’s a hot one — like seven inches from a midday sun hot.

That’s right, the smoothest stringlord this side of Spanish Harlem, Carlos Santana, has been added to next year’s mega-bill, and that’s not all.

He’s joined by another equally-as-legendary act in The Doobie Brothers.

Bluesfest boss Peter Noble is probably laughing maniacally as he slaps festival-goers in the face with today’s massive announcement. Here’s what he has to say about Bluesfest’s latest additions:

“When you hear the first note of ‘Black Magic Woman’ by Santana – you KNOW who it is you are hearing and the same with dozens of other songs. His signature guitar sound is unlike any other, it simply is his and his alone. It’s the same with everything he creates. Santana is music royalty – one of the greats. A hero to Latin people worldwide, and everyone else who loves his music too. Santana last played Bluesfest in 2013, this performance now legendary. It is one of the GREAT shows, and one that is still talked about. We are beyond proud to present Santana at Bluesfest on Sunday April 16.

“The Doobie Brothers blitzed when they last played Bluesfest. They are simply a brilliant live band. They perform hit after hit, leaving their fans both old and new in raptures.

“This is the announcement, along with those which came before, which shows that Bluesfest is serious about 2017 being its best line up yet. And there is plenty more to come. It is not a year to hold back on buying tickets. We have gone all out to present our best festival yet… come join us.”

Today’s additions come on top of previously announced mega-acts including Zac Brown BandPatti Smith, The LumineersBuddy GuyBonnie RaittMavis Stapes, Jethro Tull and more, plus last week’s soul/R&B-themed round of lineup additions, which was topped by hip-hop kween Mary J Blige.

Bluesfest will return to its usual home at Byron Bay’s Tyagarah Tree Farm over the Easter long weekend in April of next year. Catch the full lineup and ticketing details below.
