Channel Tres Just Dropped New Single ‘Weedman’

After releasing EP Black Moses last year and working on a string of remixes for the likes of Tyler, the Creator (‘EARFQUAKE’) and King Princess (‘Hit the Back’), Channel Tres has delivered his first new single of 2020 – entitled ‘Weedman’.

It’s the first single on the Los Angeles producer’s own newly-established Art for Their Good label, and it’s a slow-burning bop anchored by a smooth, rolling bass line and a touch of psychedelic influence.

It’s more than just a vibey hip-house cut, though. The song examines the complexity of being a black man in America at a point where marijuana decriminalisation is becoming increasingly widespread, but many people of colour remain incarcerated from drugs charges stemming back to before legalisation.

“It’s basically a song detailing my life at a certain time,” says. “It was hard to get weed, and now there’s dispensaries everywhere.”

Under normal circumstances, Channel Tres was headed to Australia next month for headline shows as well as appearances as part of the Groovin the Moo lineup. Obviously, those have all since been cancelled due to coronavirus, but here’s hoping we can see Channel back down under as soon as it’s safe to do so.
