Brace yourselves, music lovers, for the best news you’ve heard all year. No, it’s not a new Foo Fighters album. No, The Smiths are not reforming. It’s even better. Wait for it – Chris Brown will be quitting music after the release of his sixth studio album X.
24-year-old Brown took to Twitter to bring the good news to the masses, posting “Don’t worry mainstream America. After this X album, it’ll probably be my last album.” He then added “Being famous is amazing when it’s for ur music and talent. I’m tired of being famous for a mistake I made when i was 18. I’m cool & over it!”
Presumably, the “mistake” he references is not that time he forgot to go grocery shopping or when he left his keys in the front door but rather the violent assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna, where he “mistakenly” punched her in the face multiple times in 2009.
Since then, he’s racked up a string of other encounters with the law, culminating in a hit-and-run charge stemming from a rear-ending snafu back in May. He served 45 minutes in jail on Monday for the crime, with his moment in the slammer seemingly prompting this reflection on the trappings of fame.
The Fine China singer has since deleted the tweets but here’s hoping he’s a man of his word. X is set for release on 20th August, so we may have less than two weeks left of this chump being in our frame of existence. Excuse us – we’re just going to go and make a little calendar. Anyone got a permanent marker?
