Circa Survive Detail New Album ‘Violent Waves’, Offer Limited Edition Handwritten Lyrics

Philadelphia alt-rock outfit Circa Survive have announced plans to release their 4th studio album. To be christened Violent Waves, the album will be the first independent release from the band, who are also offering some limited edition goodies to compliment the album.

While the 5-piece have channeled both indie and major labels for previous releases, a statement from the band’s website details their plans to do something different, recording and releasing the album wholly on their own: “This is raw Circa Juice straight from us to you”, the band has said.

The album will be up for sale digitally through the website for around US$5. By putting such a low cost on the album, the band is hoping to encourage as many fans as possible to purchase rather than download. Everything has been paid for out of their personal bank accounts, and retail stores all over the world will be able to contact the band for distribution.

The first single from the album Suitcase is up for grabs on the site as well, giving fans the option for pre-orders. Furthermore, for the fee of $750 fans will get a copy of the album with handwritten lyrics, presumably from frontman Anthony Green himself. However, don’t get too excited, even if you have the cash, only 11 copies are available, so only the die-hards will get through.

Violent Waves will be released August 28, followed by a series of shows through the US. Though releasing an album like that in the bottom half of the year puts them as shoe-ins for 2013. What do you think?
