Melbourne indie-rockers Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird have dropped the mothercousin-load, loosing new music, a new album announcement and national tour dates to boot.
The five-piece’s new LP, dubbed Rosewater Crocodile, is due to arrive on Friday, 27th June, and our first taste of it comes in the form of lead single ‘Mercury Rising’ a hypnotic, funk-fuelled track that was birthed inside – uh – a nudist day spa.
Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird – ‘Mercury Rising’
“‘Mercury Rising’ percolated in the creative volcano for many years,” frontman Lachlan Rose clarifies. “Riffs at sound check, lyrics on tour etc. Then the band had a day off between shows in Europe, went to a nudist day spa and the song was crystallised. It’s a celebration of fun, sexy love – platonic or otherwise. We wanted the song itself to sound like the world in which it was created; a safe, playful celebration of lascivious love between friends.”
To celebrate their new album release, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird will be hitting the road this July and August, headlining sizeable stages in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.
