ORIGINAL STORY: Former Smashing Pumpkins bassist D’arcy Wretzky has released a number of text messages which were allegedly sent to her by the band’s frontman Billy Corgan in January, about the group’s long-rumoured reunion album and tour.
Wretzky shared screenshots of the messages, which you can view in full below, with Alternative Nation.
While the messages suggest Smashing Pumpkins are planning an arena tour with a “massive setlist”, Wretzky says she shared the messages “as proof to the many people who said that I was lying about ever being offered the job”.
Yesterday, Smashing Pumpkins denied Wretzky’s accusation that they withdrew a reunion offer they supposedly put to her, saying that she “has repeatedly been invited out to play with the group, participate in demo sessions, or at the very least, meet face-to-face”, but has “always deferred”.
Speaking about the text messages on Facebook, Wretzky says, “If one takes the time to read it carefully, one will notice that as the conversation continues, the roll I’m offered becomes ever smaller.
“Finally Billy says that what I deserve is a T-shirt with my face on it. I spoke with him and asked him if there was any possible way that I’d be able to play bass on the tour and he said no.”
In the texts (of which some appear to be missing), Corgan allegedly pitches to Wretzky that she could make guest appearances during the tour, much like Steven Adler did on Guns N’ Roses’ recent reunion tour. He also allegedly informs her that Jack Bates, the son of New Order’s Peter Hook, will play bass on the Pumpkins’ reunion tour.

The Smashing Pumpkins are expected to announce details of their reunion on Friday morning Australian time, after the countdown clock on their website comes to an end. Stay tuned to Music Feeds for all the details.
