David Bowie Debuts 10-Minute Epic ‘Black Star’ Single With Creepy Ass Video

If you have even the faintest idea about the one-man Tim Burton movie that is David Bowie, then you’ll know that he never delivers anything straight. And you won’t be surprised to learn that his latest track Blackstar is a 10-minute long epic with a wildly weird and wonderful music video.

The song is taken from his forthcoming 25th album ★ (pronounced Blackstar, duh) which is due for release on January 8th, and it feels like a number of songs all wrapped up in one.

Allow the Goblin King to take you on a journey from eerie to funky, before whisking you off into ballad country and then dropping you back off at eerie.

Like so many Bowie visuals that have come before it, the video is a wacky masterpiece. Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland of sorts, the Bowienator comes face to face with skeleton astronauts, convulsing men, a moving scarecrow and what looks like a fully blown exorcism.

The clip was directed by Johan Renck who’s worked on Breaking Bad in the past, which makes total sense given the confronting scenes of the video. The song is currently the theme the TV show The Last Panthers which is airing on US channel, Sky Atlantic.

Whether you can handle the oddities of Bowie or not, you’ve got to hand it to him. The man is 68 and still pushing sonic boundaries more than five decades into his career.

★ follows 2013’s The Next Day and will be only his fourth record released this millennium.
