Ever a man of the people, EDM superstar Joel Zimmerman, known to the masses as Deadmau5, recently made the mistake of christening the new year with a Wednesday show at Mansion, one of Miami’s most coveted beachfront dance floors, later announcing that he will never do so again.
“Lol at the entire front row glued to their fucking phones. Much party. Many text. Wow,” the man in the mouse helmet tweeted after revellers in the front of the club refused to sheath their mobile phones while the producer’s actual fans were relegated to the rear of the venue.
After cutting his set short, Zimmerman took his frustrations to the brand new subscription-based section of his website, writing, “I fucking reamed out my agent for making me deal with that… Putting fans in the back and trust fund kids up front is fucking stupid as fuck… won’t be playing any more Miami club… I’d rather rent a venue / parking lot / beachfront and fuckin’ do it right.”
The evening had a happy ending, with Zimmerman tweeting, “Woohoo! Got to meet all my fans at the back of the club!!! So worth it now 🙂 thanks guys!” The tweet came after Deadmau5 addressed the venue and its unfortunate inhabitants, writing, “Thanks @mansion_miami it’s been real as fuck.”
