Disclosure & Azealia Banks Collab Canned After “Rude” Comments, Beef Continues

UK duo Disclosure have responded to recent comments made by one-time collaborator Azealia Banks, who accused the pair of making disparaging remarks about her during an interview.

The allegedly “rude” comments that Banks took umbrage to are presumably ones made during an interview earlier this year, in which Disclosure rubbished Azealia’s tweets claiming she’d had “an an amazing [studio] session” with the pair.

In the interview with Dutch radio station 3voor12, brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence cleared up rumours circulating around the collaboration, saying “We don’t have a song with her yet. We’ve met her once. I think she’s kind of taken to Twitter quite heavily with the fact that she’s meeting with us,” before adding, “All these blogs think we’ve now made a masterpiece, but really, we just sat there eating sushi.”

Apparently Ms Banks didn’t take too well to the perceived rudeness of the Lawrence boys’ comments and hit back during an interview with the AU Review.

When asked about the collaboration with Disclosure, Banks said, “I did something with Disclosure but they were really rude in an interview, so I canned it,” before joking that she might leak the track.

Banks also changed her tune regarding the “amazing session” she had with the producers, saying “To be honest, I’ve got better stuff on my record.” The rapper let out her infamous vitriol when asked if the track might make the C-side of an upcoming release. Said Banks: “It could be an F-side, a f**k-you-side.”

Now Guy and Howard have responded to the seemingly unprovoked jab during an appearance triple j‘s The Tom and Alex Show this morning, referring to the same Dutch interview. Said the pair: “I don’t give a damn if she uses our song.” When asked about the rude comments, Howard joked “We’re actually terrible, terrible people,” with Guy adding “Have you seen the interview where we were rude? It was so bad compared to what she said.”

The guys then cleared up the situation, saying:

“We worked together on some songs – we just wrote the first verse and a build-up – there wasn’t a chorus – and she kind of took it away. Then she thought we were rude in that interview, but we apologised and everything. It didn’t seem to matter to her. We made the beat on the way there in the car, so I don’t give a damn if she uses it. Whatever.”

Howard also took the opportunity to explain his original comments, saying:

“Maybe when I said [in the interview] that she’s ‘taken to it quite heavily’, she thought it was quite rude – but what I meant was that whenever we’ve worked with anyone in the past, we just keep it secret. Because if nothing comes of the session, nobody’s disappointed. But if you build all the hype beforehand, then you have to come up with something amazing.”
