Dolly Parton’s Bringing Her ‘9 To 5’ Musical To Sydney In 2020

Dolly Parton‘s stage version of the hit 1980 comedy 9 to 5, is headed to Australia. It will make its Australian debut in April 2020 at the Sydney Lyric Theatre.

The musical follows the plot of the film, telling the story of three workmates, Doralee, Violet and Judy, who are pushed too far by their sexist boss. What follows is a whirlwind of a story, with our three protagonists plotting to kidnap their boss and find their revenge. Patricia Resnick, who was the film’s original screenwriter, has penned the book to match.

The smash musical was first reimagined for Broadway in 2009, where Parton received a Grammy nod for the original music she composed. It made its West End debut in London earlier in the year where it was originally only meant to run for a 16 week season, but due to huge demand, it has since been extended multiple times and is now on an open-ended run. Australian audiences will be treated to the same version as the West End musical.
