Dominic Talarico Freeway Mixtape Launch Tonight

Self described “gay-guido-gangsta,” Dominic Talarico is launching his Freeway Mixtape tonight at The Chocolate Factory in the CBD, joined by Disco Club. Entry is free and there are free drinks on offer from 7pm.

Having just released the video for lead single Dud, Freeway is but a taste of what’s to come from Talarico, with his forthcoming original debut currently in the works. The mixtape itself is made from borrowed beats, featuring beats from the likes of TLC, Ashanti and Ratatat, and showcases Talarico’s versatility as a singer as well as his quirky brand of confessional and honest lyricism.

Somewhat of a recluse, he was a fixture of the Sydney underground a year or so ago, known for his gunja riddled sets of melancholy pop before embarking on a self-imposed creative hiatus, the product of which is this mixtape, as well as his yet-to-be-heard originals. His music sits in contrast to his contemporaries, choosing to reject the aesthetic of the DIY and indie rock scene of which he was a part and taking up the tools and language of pop, R&B and dance in an effort to speak more honestly about the absurdity of modern life, the ambiguity of human sexuality and the extremes of human emotion.

This is just the first step down the rabbit hole of this artist’s twisted genius I assure you, so keep your eyes open. You can watch the video for Dud, directed by Joel Burrows here below. For more info on the event you can visit the Facebook event here.
