Eliza & The Delusionals have shared a new single entitled ‘Make It Feel Like the Garden’. It marks both their first new music since the release of their 2022 debut album Now and Then and their first release as a trio, following the departure of guitarist Ashley Martin in February 2023. In a press statement, eponymous frontwoman Eliza Klatt described ‘Make It Feel Like the Garden’ as “one of my favourite songs that we’ve written”.
“We tried to encapsulate the feeling of looking for euphoria and the comfort of being in your happy place – in your own ‘garden’,” she said. “It’s a feeling I think people often chase – whether it’s a happy memory, or thinking about someone that you love. We want it to feel like the garden all of the time, and we wanted this song to take you there.”
Eliza & The Delusionals – ‘Make It Feel Like the Garden’
Eliza & The Delusionals released Now and Then in May 2022. Its release was preempted by six singles: ‘You’ in May 2021, ‘Save Me’ in July 2021, ‘Nothing Yet’ in November 2021, ‘Give You Everything’ in February 2022 and both ‘Halloween’ and ‘Bed Song’ in April 2022. The album was nominated for the J Award, but ultimately lost to Gang of Youths‘ angel in realtime.
Following the album’s release, the band appeared on triple j‘s Like a Version segment where they covered Phoebe Bridgers‘ ‘Motion Sickness’. They were joined by Clews‘ Lily and Grace Richardson on guest backing vocals for the cover. The following year, the band undertook a co-headlining tour with Sydney band The Buoys and later supported Trophy Eyes on their national tour alongside Dust.
In April, the band will tour nationally supporting American folk-punk band The Front Bottoms on their first tour in seven years. The run will include performances at the UNSW Roundhouse in Sydney, the Princess Theatre in Brisbane and the Northcote Theatre in Melbourne.
