EXCLUSIVE: The Used New LP Out March 2014 Via “Revolutionary” Label GAS Union

The Used frontman Bert McCracken has revealed exclusively to Music Feeds that the band are in the final process of finishing their new record, due to be released in March 2014 via their own “revolutionary” record label, which the band have dubbed GAS Union.

Speaking on the new record at Vans Warped Tour Australia in Sydney last weekend, McCracken said, “We just finished up a new record, well, we’re in the final process. So that should be out in March.”

On the tone of the new LP, he continued, “It’s more of a serious, more of a selfless look at the world, at de-humanisation in general. I feel like we are all The Used, we are all depressed and I feel like the only way to change that it to become educated about who’s oppressing us.”

McCracken revealed to Music Feeds earlier this year his ambitions to start “the first-ever free music record label” and now has confirmed that the process of setting up GAS (“Give A Shit”) Union is well underway.

“It’s a union for artists,” he explained. “Our ideology is if you’re not producing music, or you’re not making music or if you’re not working with the touring side, then you don’t deserve to make any money from music. And it’s all the people who don’t do what I just said who are making all the money. We think we can change that.”

“I’m sure the patron or the fan wants to support the artist directly,” he continued, “so instead of stealing the record from wherever, you steal it from us directly and then you get incentives like five bucks off a T-shirt. We understand that music is free and we want to open up the floodgates instead of trying to plug up every hole that the water is seeping through.”

While there is no official release date for new material, it looks like the new Used record will be the first release from GAS, with McCracken saying they band were still working out the finer details regarding their current deal with Hopeless Records.

“Hopeless is a bunch of like-minded individuals and they’re up for the revolution,” he explained. “Our record will come out on GAS Union but we’re still working on the paradigm, so look for March.”

The Used will continue on Vans Warped Tour Australia when it resumes in Canberra tomorrow, Friday, 5th December.
