The Used Frontman Moves To Australia, Plans Not-For-Profit Record Label

The Used frontman Bert McCracken has revealed that he and his wife have relocated to Australia, and that the band have ambitions to tackle deficiencies in the music industry with the help of a little known Australian band.

Speaking to Music Feeds just after their announcement on the Vans Warped Tour Australia lineup, McCracken revealed that his wife has recently moved to Sydney, and says he is “really excited” to join her there once his Warped US commitments are done.

McCracken also revealed that he had been working with Sydney post hardcore duo Corpus (new video below) and when asked about the capacity in which he was involved with the pair the frontman revealed that The Used have plans to “change the world of music in a huge way”.

Inspired by recent successes in crowdfunding, the idea involves what he calls “the first-ever free music record label”, which would potentially see no money pass from consumers to the label, or from the label to bands:

“It’s kind of like a Kickstarter campaign except we don’t take your money. We don’t want a single percentage of anything you do; we just want you to make money and be happy as a band…

“We want the fans to support the bands and the bands that support the fans. I don’t know who wouldn’t want that.”

Despite being understandably reticent in revealing detail, McCracken is confident that the venture will happen – “hopefully by next spring” – and that the fire behind their drive to change the industry will ensure the project keeps moving forward:

“I think we can make it happen. Shit’s been the wrong way for too long; I think things are upside down… The whole idea of this trickle-down economics where bands are consciously trying to catch the pennies that fall from the rich peoples pockets, I’m done buying that shit.”

McCracken was hopeful of sideshows for The Used while they’re here for Warped and says, even if those don’t eventuate, The Used will be playing in Australia “quite a lot more than we used to” considering he’s now a full-time resident of the country.
