Gorillaz Album Won’t Be Out Until 2017 But It’s “Really Fuckin’ Special”

Last year Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn said that we should expect new Gorillaz material this year but now it looks like we’re going to have to wait until next year for the new record.

Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett provided an updated to fan page GorillazNorthAmerica and they recapped it on their Instagram page.

“Jamie says new GORILLAZ is special, really fuckin special. Can’t be rushed. 2017,” they wrote.

“Its [sic] gonna be all that and more.”

Hewlett has already posted footage on Instagram in the studio with Albarn so we at least know we’re working on it but details as to what to expect from the follow-up to 2011’s The Fall have been pretty scarce.

Last year, Alarn said that it was sounding “really fast”.

“It’s got quite a lot of energy. I’ve been stuck on piano, somewhere off Broadway, for years now. I want to go somewhere completely opposite of that,” he further said.

Vic Mensa is also rumoured to be working on the album after he was spotted in the studio with drummer producer Remi Kabaka Jr., who is also the voice of Gorillaz’s fictional drummer Russel Hobbs.

Given that the release date has been pushed to 2017, it’s likely that there will be plenty of rumours leaking out over the next few months as anticipation continues to build.
