Groovin The Moo Confirms It Will Not Return In 2025

The return of Groovin The Moo has grown increasingly unlikely, with the announcement from organisers that it will once again not be going ahead this year following its 2024 cancellation due to low ticket sales. The festival’s social media channels provided the unfortunate update that it “won’t be happening in 2025”, but that they were “work[ing] on finding the most sustainable model for Australia’s most loved regional touring festival.”

“We will really miss seeing the smiling faces of all our beloved Moo Crew,” the post continued. “In the meantime: Which artist would you most like to see on a GTM line-up?” Previous performers at the festival – such as Boy & Bear, What So Not, Alice Ivy, Ocean Alley and Mashd N Kutcher – all showed their support for Groovin The Moo in the Instagram post’s comment section.

Following the news breaking, the Australian Festival Association (AFA) – which describes itself as “the only established not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for the festival sector” – released a statement expressing their disappointment.

“Regional festivals like Groovin the Moo play a vital role in connecting audiences with live music outside of major cities, providing opportunities for artists, local businesses and festival workers,” it read. Like many events across the country, [however,] the rising costs of production and ongoing challenges in the industry have made it increasingly difficult to operate. This cancellation highlights the urgent need for the Federal Government to extend funding to ensure festivals of all sizes can continue to thrive.”

Groovin The Moo last ran successfully in 2023, with a line-up that featured the likes of Fatboy Slim, Alt-J, Denzel Curry, Amy Shark, Ball Park Music, Genesis Owusu, Skegss and Teenage Dads. Its 2024 line-up was slated to feature Alison WonderlandArmani WhiteThe Kooks, The Beaches, Claire RosinkranzSan CiscoMallratDMA’sThe Grogans and Jet.

Despite the doom and gloom of both Groovin and Splendour In The Grass confirming they will not return this year, not all has been lost for the Australian festival circuit. Laneway Festival is expecting its biggest crowds ever this week, with an exclusive headlining set from Charli XCX, while Good Things organisers have “guaranteed” the festival will be back in December.
