Hear Cut Copy’s Dancefloor-Friendly New Single ‘Airborne’

Aussie electro outfit Cut Copy are back with a dancey new single called ‘Airborne’, as they work towards a long-awaited follow-up to their 2013 album Free Your Mind.

‘Airborne’, which you can stream below, was produced by Ben Allen, who has previously worked with the likes of Deerhunter and Animal Collective.

Speaking about the new song with triple j, Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford said the track isn’t like anything else in the Cut Copy discography.

“It felt like a really unusual track and didn’t have any obvious reference points,” he said.

“It was something that we all played on and created from the ground up and I feel like it’s a bit of a song of two halves. The first half is a psychedelic funk tune, then the second half disappears into somewhere completely different. We tried to make the track as surprising as possible.”

Whitford also confirmed that Cut Copy’s next album is “almost finished”, and called ‘Airborne’ a “taste of things to come”.

The group’s next project will follow on from their 2016 ambient tape project The January Tape.

Cut Copy will perform at Splendour In The Grass later this month, and will also play a pair of sideshows around the festival.
