Lamb Of God have sliced off yet another pummelling track off their forthcoming slab of metal, VII: Sturm und Drang. Entitled Embers, the crushing tune features guest vocals from Deftones singer Chino Moreno.
The legendary vocalist, who also fronts Crosses and Palms, cameos on the song’s softer, vibier bridge to break up the onslaught of battering riffage and brutal screams, and Lamb Of God singer Randy Blythe has explained how the whole thing came about during a recent interview with Germany’s Rock Hard magazine.
“Initially there were two demo versions of the song,” Blythe said. “One in that typical thrashy LOG style and the one that ended up on the album. Mark [Morton, guitarist] sent me both ideas and when I was checking them on my headphones… the second version with its epic ending just blew me away. There was only one problem: I didn’t know how to sing in this part.
“Instead, Chino came to my mind because the atmosphere of that part constantly reminded me of Deftones and Palms,” he continued. “A few weeks later when we met up in Richmond to work on the album, Mark and our producer, Josh Wilbur, sat together and looked at me saying: ‘What do you think, should we have sing Chino on this part?’ Those guys are mind readers!
“I showed Chino the song and when Deftones worked on their album in L.A. he immediately came up with a fitting melody!”
Lamb Of God’s seventh studio LP VII: Sturm und Drang also features previously-released tracks 512, Overlord, Erase This and Still Echoes, the latter of which was recently spotlighted in Music Feeds’ bitchin’ weekly Faves feature, and likened to getting your ears punched right square in the balls.
Lamb Of God’s VII: Sturm und Drang is set to be released on July 24th via Nuclear Blast, with pre-orders available now. Check out the Soundwave 2015 alumni’s latest track, Embers featuring Chino Moreno, below.
