Here’s (Roughly) When You Can Expect The New Metallica Album To Land

Lars Ulrich has just given us our biggest update yet about Metallica‘s new album.

The thrashlords’ 10th studio LP will be finished over the American summer, with the band hoping to get it out – and into our earholes – by late 2016.

“We’re now coming towards the end of the musical creative process,” Ulrich told Metal Forces, “And we’re starting to look ahead and the process of how we’re gonna share this record with the universe.”

With regard to Tallica’s timeline, the Danish stick elf explained: “The month of June is basically when we’re gonna sit down and figure what we’re gonna do with it all; what we’re gonna call it and what’s gonna be on it.”

But although the riff kings are eyeballing a 2016 release, Lars admits that nothing’s set in stone.

“If the record doesn’t come out this year then it won’t be because it’s not done. It will be because there’s some sort of cosmic reason that it would be smarter to hold onto it until next year. But the record will be done this summer.”

The band recently revealed that Death Magnetic engineer Greg Filedman is back on board as producer for album number 10, after Lars described it using the simple terms “metal” and “heavy”.

Heavy metal? Excellent!

Late last year, Ulrich and James Hetfield also starred in a little video that gave us a bit of a sneak peak at some of the fat riffs on the band’s new album.
