IDLES Have Confirmed A New Album Is On The Way, Features Production From Kenny Beats

British punks IDLES released one of last year’s best albums with Joy As an Act of Resistance, an incendiary record with lyrics that explored masculinity on tracks like ‘Never Fight a Man with a Perm’ and immigration on the very catchy ‘Danny Nedelko’.

Now, the band have confirmed a new album is on the way, and it features production from a slightly left-field source.

In an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, frontman Joe Talbot confirmed that producer Kenny Beats was working on the album alongside Nick Launay and Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan, who both worked on the mixing for Joy As an Act of Resistance.

“We got a new album. It’s being mixed right now, in your city actually,” says Talbot during the interview, commenting that the album was recorded in Paris.

Kenny Beats has worked with a smorgasbord of hip-hop’s most unique names, including Vince Staples and Freddie Gibbs. More recently, he collaborated with rapper Rico Nasty for this year’s brilliant Anger Management.

“Let me just say though, IDLES are the best band in the whole world,” says Kenny Beats after hopping onto the call during the interview.

“I think this is a good lesson for anybody else who is pigeonholed or pushed into doing what they do best and only that. I heard IDLES and was like, this is all I want to work on, this is all I want to do, these guys are the best.”

Hell yeah.

Earlier this month, IDLES released live album A Beautiful Thing: IDLES Live at Le Bataclan, taken from their performance at the iconic Paris venue.
