iOTA Announces One Night Only at The Studio, Sydney Opera House

Renowned Sydney jazz collective Junglehammer are gearing up for the launch of their third album Romeo Tree at The Studio, Sydney Opera House next month. Fronted by singer/songwriter iOTA, and with special guest Lily Dior and a stellar fourteen-piece ensemble, Junglehammer will unleash their distinctive sound on Sydney audiences on Friday 14 May.

In 2007, iOTA beat Hugh Jackman to take out the Helpmann Award for ‘Best Male Actor In A Musical’ for his performance in the cult rock opera Hedwig And The Angry Inch. He went on to achieve critical acclaim for his portrayal as Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and is fresh from a run in the cabaret show Smoke And Mirrors, which was performed at The Famous Spiegeltent as part of the 2010 Sydney Festival.

Junglehammer sees iOTA once again collaborate with keyboardist/producers James Guiney (Screaming Jets, V.DUB) and Lindsay Page to create a fusion of soul, jazz and funk that showcases his extraordinary vocal talents.

Recorded at the Sydney Opera House by Grammy Award-winning engineers Tony David Cray and Jason Blackwell, ‘Romeo Tree’ comprises of final mixes by Micaja Ryan, Steven James, Bob Scott, David Hemming and Tony David Cray. The musical outfit features the infectious beats of Joe Accaria and Dave Marsalis on drums, Ben Cripps and Hal Tupea on bass, and a four-piece horn section led by sax legend Jason Morphett. Marty Hailey and Hugh Coffey lend their guitar skills to complete the formidable collective.

With such an impressive line-up of jazz music’s finest practitioners, Junglehammer’s only Sydney show is not to be missed!
