Is Kanye About To Drop His Most Self-Indulgent Project Yet?

Speculation has abounded surrounding Kanye West‘s next album, which is slated for release later this year, stemming from his recent postponement of some Yeezus Tour dates. Now, reports are emerging that Yeezy is planning on taking his exercise in minimalism to the next level, by releasing a three hour, entirely spoken word album.

The Sun reports, the Bound 2 rapper will supposedly make the spoken recording available on vinyl, and it will feature everything from his views on the environment to life with fiancee Kim Kardashian and their 10-month-old daughter North.

According to the unconfirmed report, Kanye is “doing it for posterity,” claiming that he originally planned to turn the contents of the planned album into a book. The “source” also claims that the rapper is planning on making 24 hours of his speech recording available to download, “so fans can listen to his views round the clock.”

“Kanye likes to push the boundaries and thinks this is very groundbreaking. He’s hoping it’ll win him a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album,” the anonymous tipster told the British tabloid. “He has very strong views on everything from music and art to politics and the environment. He’s forever recording his opinions on tape.”

Earlier this month, Kanye West announced the postponement of his May tour dates, citing “unexpected timing requirements” to finish his next studio album. Recent comments by one of the album’s producers, Evian Christ, suggest this new studio album most likely won’t be the one filled with three hours of spoken word, when he revealed that West emailed him to request an Otis Redding/ Mobb Deep-style beat for the record.

That’s not to say whatever comes to fruition from that collaboration will stick, as the notoriously perfectionist West may end up scrapping the beat, the entire song or indeed all of the music, on his new studio album, which he’s described as his Born in the USA.

West has clocked up a wealth of stage rants in his career from which he might draw some inspiration for his spoken-word debut, having already fired off his auto-tuned views on such varied topics as Drake, Saturday Night Live, horoscopes and Nike vs. Adidas.
