James Blake Is Finally Returning To Australia For His First Tour In Seven Years

Seven years after his last Australian visit, James Blake is officially heading back Down Under.

The British GRAMMY and Mercury Prize-winning artist has announced a run of Australian headline dates this December, bringing his singular live show to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for his first local performances since 2019.

James Blake – ‘Trying Times’

Arriving off the back of his newly released self-funded album Trying Times – currently his highest-charting record to date – the tour marks another chapter in a career that’s spent the last decade and a half quietly reshaping modern music from the shadows.

For plenty of artists, the collaborator list alone would be enough to build a legacy. Blake’s reads more like a cheat code: Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, SZA, ROSALÍA, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott and Dave among them, with credits scattered across era-defining records including Blonde, DAMN., ASTROWORLD, Lemonade and Motomami.

More recently, Blake linked with acclaimed UK rapper Dave for The Boy Who Played The Harp and contributed “Séance” alongside Ludwig Göransson for the Sinners soundtrack.

But collaborator status only tells part of the story.

Since emerging from the UK post-dubstep underground in the early 2010s, Blake has built a catalogue that somehow manages to sit between electronic experimentation, soul, alt-R&B and confessional songwriting without ever fully belonging to any one scene. Across seven studio albums – from his cult-favourite self-titled debut through to Mercury Prize-winning Overgrown, Assume Form and Friends That Break Your Heart – he’s become one of contemporary music’s most distinctive voices.

His latest record, Trying Times, leans into that emotional precision once again, tracing themes of intimacy, uncertainty and connection in an increasingly unstable world.

And if previous Aussie visits are anything to go by, expect this one to land less like a conventional concert and more like a collective emotional processing session with immaculate production.
