Jared Leto Confirmed To Play The Joker In ‘Suicide Squad’

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto will play The Joker, Batman’s archenemy, in Warner Brothers’ forthcoming DC Comics-inspired film Suicide Squad. The musician/actor will be the first actor to reprise the role since the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Variety report Leto will be joined by actors Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne in the film. Smith will be playing Deadshot, Hardy will play Rick Flagg, Robbie will play The Joker’s protege Harley Quinn, Courtney will be Boomerang, while Delevigne will act as Enchantress.

David Ayer (Fury, End Of Watch) will direct and write the screenplay, with the feature to begin shooting in Toronto, Canada, in April. Suicide Squad is currently sitting on a US release date of 5th August 2016.

Last month, it was reported that Leto was being eyed for the role. Leto won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his performance in the 2013 film Dallas Buyers Club.
