Jason Alexander, the actor best remembered for playing George Constanza on Seinfeld, is learning how to play the bass guitar. Once up to scratch, Alexander promises to share a version of the Seinfeld theme music.
Alexander played George on the internationally acclaimed sitcom from its premiere in 1989 through to its finale, nine seasons later, in 1998. He returned to the character for season seven of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009 and for a Super Bowl episode of Jerry Seinfeld’s web series, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, in 2014.
In addition to its main characters, Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer, Seinfeld is recognised for its theme music. Composer Jonathan Wolff created the theme, which consists of a selection of sampled electric bass riffs. These bass motifs play at the beginning of each episode and throughout to connect scenes.
Now, 24 years after the Seinfeld finale, Alexander is planning to learn these bass riffs. “So, in my midlife crisis (assuming I make it to 124), I’m trying to teach myself electric bass,” he wrote on Twitter.
Alexander asked his followers for tips on quality online learning and promised to reimburse those lending a hand. “You may ask yourself, ‘what’s in it for me, Alexander?’” he said. “Answer– 5 years from now I will play you the Seinfeld theme song. Serenity now.”
Wolff’s official Seinfeld soundtrack was released last July.
