Jim Ward, founding member of At The Drive In and lead guitarist/vocalist of Sparta has cancelled his Sydney sideshow tomorrow (6th January) after receiving news about his friend and music identity Esme Barrera’s murder. He feels the need to get back home to support her family, and group of friends.
Statement is as follows:
“We just found out a dear friend of Gabe and I has been murdered – we need to get home to be with family, friends and have the support of our gang”
Ward had been in Australia for the past few weeks, playing at the Peats Ridge Festival along with a couple of sideshows. The show at the Sandringham was to be his last show.
