Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Announce New Album ‘Tyranny’

Nearly five years after his debut solo release Phrazes for the Young, The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has officially announced the release of his second solo effort. Tyranny will be Casablancas’ first album with new band The Voidz and is due to drop this September.

Casablancas will release the album via his own Cult Records label and a digital pre-order of the record is currently available through the label’s website for just $3.87. The record is said to feature “world underground music from the Seventies and Eighties, hardcore/punk and modern harmonies”.

“Tyranny has come in many forms throughout history,” explains the frontman about the album’s concept and title. “Now, the good of business is to put above anything else, as corporations have become the new ruling body. Most decisions seem to be made like ones of a medieval king: whatever makes profit while ignoring and repressing the truth about whatever suffering it may cause (like pop music, for that matter).”

Along with the announcement, Casabalancas also released a five-minute video featuring snippets of new songs and footage from his recent tour. Earlier this year, Casablancas and The Voidz debuted three new songs at surprise shows in the US. New song titles reportedly included Ego, 2231, Dr Acula, and Arabic.

Casablancas’ official site lists Tyranny‘s release date as September 23rd. Expect an Australian release date soon.
