Khalid has announced a benefit concert in response to the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas on the 3rd of August. The shooting claimed 22 lives and injured a further 24 people.
The benefit concert, A Night For Suncity, will take place on Sunday, 1st September at Don Haskins Centre at the University of Texas.
Khalid went to school in El Paso and was deeply impacted by the tragic event. He’s working to find and provide support for the city. The benefit concert will see Khalid and friends raise funds for the El Paso Community Foundation as well as the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund.
In a statement, Khalid said, “I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily.
“I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me.”
He’ll also be selling T-shirts via his website, The Great Khalid Foundation to raise additional funds for the cause.
Khalid tweeted just eight days prior to the announcement, “Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking.”
“Over the past few days, I’ve been thinking of ways to help out and support the city. I’m planning for a benefit concert later this month, all of the proceeds will go to the families affected by the shooting.”
