Lana Del Rey Has Postponed Her Israel Show Following Backlash

Lana Del Rey has taken to social media today to announce that she is postponing her performance in Israel that was scheduled to go ahead next week.

When it was announced that Del Rey was headlining the inaugural Meteor Festival, which is happening next week in Israel, she was faced with heavy backlash.

Initially, she had defended her scheduled performance, saying “I would like to remind you that performing in Tel Aviv is not a political statement or a commitment to the politics there just as singing here in California doesn’t mean my views are in alignment w my current governments opinions or sometimes inhuman actions.”

But now, she’s had a change of heart, and has opted to postpone a performance in Israel to a time when she can perform both there and in Palestine.

“It’s important to me to perform in both Palestine and Israel and treat all my fans equally,” she said in a new statement.

“Unfortunately it hasn’t been possible to line up both visits with such short notice and therefore I’m postponing my appearance at the Meteor Festival until a time when I can schedule visits for both my Israeli and Palestinian fans, as well as hopefully other countries in the region.”

Meteor Festival haven’t taken too lightly to the news, giving an update on their website saying “Just got the word that Lana will be a no-show at Meteor. We do appreciate her for choosing meteor to help her score some press attention.”

Yikes.
