Laneway Festival kicked off last week, taking a slew of hot local and international acts around the country, and this year festival co-founder Danny Rogers has pledged to match the donations the festival is making to charity with some of his own money, if the festival sells 80,000 tickets.
As it has done over the previous two years, Laneway has again raised significant funds from its ticket sales for charity, with $1 from each ticket sold going to Oxfam’s International Crisis Fund and the Yirman & The Dean Turner Project.
Danny Rogers’ pledge will see him generously donate $80,000 of his own money to the two charities if Laneway sells all of its 80,000 tickets this year.
“There’s never been a more important time to do it,” he told Pedestrian TV. “The world’s in a bit of a diabolical place at the moment, and it’s up to those who are far more fortunate to pitch in and help out.”
Donations to Oxfam’s International Crisis Fund sees money go towards helping over 65 million displaced people around the globe, while the Yiriman & The Dean Turner Project helps young Aboriginal people from the Kimberly in Western Australia reconnect with their culture and go back to their country.
Laneway Festival continues this Friday, 3rd February in Adelaide, before heading to Sydney and Fremantle across the weekend. Ticketing details are available below, and you can check out the full lineup here.
