LCD Soundsystem have become the latest band to call out tennis veteran Margaret Court, calling for her namesake Melbourne arena to be renamed.
Performing at Margaret Court Arena last night, LCD frontman James Murphy criticised Court for homophobic comments she made earlier this year, while teasing a brand new Australian tour at the very same time.
“I’m not one to get in old people’s faces for being ignorant, but when you come after my family, my friends… you can go fuck yourself,” Murphy told the crowd, as Junkee reports.
“This seems like a really nice place to play so let’s have us come back next year, and let’s rename this place.”
Hmm, maybe James Murphy Arena?
Murphy’s comments come after Aussie rockers Grinspoon recently stuck it to Court with some new marriage equality merchandise, following similar responses from Sigur Rós and Ryan Adams.
LCD Soundsystem’s reunion album American Dream is set for release on 1st September.
