Legendary ’70s Disco Label Casablanca Has Launched In Australia

Universal Music Australia is reviving ’70s disco label Casablanca in Australia.

In the ’70s, Casablanca Records was one of the visionary disco labels, defining the sound with some of the biggest records of the time. It has previously released records by greats like Donna Summer, Dusty Springfield, KISS and Irene Cara.

It relaunched overseas in 2012 and while it hasn’t stuck to the disco sound entirely, it’s kept its forward-thinking aesthetic. Its current roster includes Crystal Castles, Chase & Status and Giorgio Moroder.

The Australian arm of the label is launching with an already stellar bill of artists. They’re putting the spotlight on “electronic alternative” and have signed Vera Blue, Running Touch, Just A Gent and St Albion.

There will be an official launch party in Brisbane on Thursday, 8th September which will happen at The Wickham.

Casablanca Records is a nod to the past while looking at the future and it will be interesting to see what it can bring to the local music scene.
