The Australian music industry has lost one of its greats, with beloved country music promoter Rob Potts losing his life in a tragic road accident.
The CMC Rocks festival co-founder died in a motorbike crash in Tasmania on Friday, 27th October, with News Corp reporting that the 65-year-old’s bike hit a patch of gravel, causing him to lose control and crash near Tullah.
Rob was a huge force in the Australian country scene. Not only was he a card-carrying member of the Country Music Association (CMA) board, he also served as chairman of the CMA International Committee and was the chairman of the Australian CMA Advisory Group at the time of his death.
His friend and CMA CEO Sarah Trahern has released a statement in response to the news of his tragic death, saying “The CMA Board and staff as well as the country music community were devastated at the news of Rob’s passing.”
“He was a key driver of our international expansion for the past years and waived the country flag proudly in Australia. On a personal note, my husband Wayne and I have lost a vibrant friend. Rob lived life to its fullest,” she adds.
Potts is survived by his son, Jeremy, and ex-wife Sally.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
RIP.
