Liam Gallagher Aims High, Picks One Direction As “Biggest Competition”

Liam Gallagher has his ‘beady eye’ on UK boy band One Direction, on a mission to usurp the pop sensation from their throne at the top of the charts. Gallagher explains 1D are the only thing standing in the way of his band and success, not on account of their music, but because their “mad for it”.

With an album expected out in June, Gallagher spoke to BBC News about Beady Eye’s competition, commenting, “Who’s my biggest competition? One Direction”, but is quick to state, “I’m not into their music,” but rather fearing that the lads are just too hungry for it not to consider them a threat.

The iconic musician is also quick to remind everyone that he too was once top of the pops. Reminiscing about his hey day, “Fair play to them, man, they got lucky – like we all do, I guess – and they’re just going for it. That’s what it’s all about, innit? It’s all going to end at some point. And when it ends, you want to make sure you’ve ticked all the boxes.”

Gallagher can’t rip too hard on the X-Factor stars given that soon his band will be performing on the show. Despite a lifetime of giving it to the man, Liam has agreed to perform on the show, explaining it’s purely business, “don’t care man, we’re rock ‘n’ roll stars and you can’t argue that’s a huge audience. You have to take that opportunity.”

Beady Eye will be heading out on tour in support of their forthcoming album BE due in Australia on Friday, 7th June.
