Alternative music legend Beck has revealed the second single from his upcoming twelfth studio album, Morning Phase. The track, Waking Light, sees the musician revisiting the spacious atmosphere he explored in 2002’s much-acclaimed, Sea Change, a reported companion to this forthcoming record.
Beck told Rolling Stone last year that the new album’s 12 songs are set in the early hours of the morning. “It’s not heavy-handed, but it’s in there,” he said. “There’s this feeling of tumult and uncertainty, getting through that long, dark night of the soul – whatever you want to call it.”
This new record will be the first studio output from the artist since 2008’s Modern Guilt. Last year he told an Argentine newspaper that a spinal injury was preventing him from recording and performing new music and that he needed time to recover.
