LISTEN: Frank Ocean, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon & Diplo – ‘Hero’

Frank Ocean and Diplo have combined their powers with former The Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, with the quartet coming together to make Hero, a track specially written for Converse’s Three Artists, One Song series.

The dreamy, soulful track was one of five written by Diplo, Jones and Simonon in Damon Albarn‘s studio in London, with Diplo telling Rolling Stone he’s a long-time fan of the duo’s pioneering punk outfit:

“The Clash were always teachers to me, even before I shared a studio with Paul and Mick. Their musical anarchy and constant attitude to disregard rules and forge their own path was inspirational to me. They meant death to genres, music and message above everything. Frank lives by the same creed in being married to his vision and seeing it through at any cost. We had to challenge each other to make something that we hope no one could expect.”

New Orleans crooner Ocean then selected his favourite of the demos to record vocals for, with Hero also featuring the voices of the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. Previous Converse Three Artist, One Song teams have included Gorillaz, James Murphy, and André 3000; and Best Coast, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, and Kid Cudi.
