Lorde Begins Work On Her Second Album: “I’m Taking My Time”

It’s official. Lorde is back in the studio at work on her second album. But don’t get too ahead of yourselves, guys. The 18-year-old international superstar says she’s taking her time with it.

Writing on Tumblr following a night out on the town for New York’s annual Met Gala, Lorde confirmed to followers that she’s entered the studio and is starting work on the follow-up to her hugely successful debut record Pure Heroine.

“I took a few months off at the beginning of this year, which was so great – i did a bunch of swimming and driving around and being salty – and now i’m just getting into making the next body of work, which is very exciting and scary but SO VALIDATING,” she wrote.

Lorde likened the making of her debut album to “meeting someone and feeling that need to do everything, just in case for whatever reason, you run out of time”, and said this time around she’s feeling “much calmer [and] more comfortable in my love of doing this”.

After thanking fans for their support, Lorde also said, “i’m taking my time to make the new stuff as good as i can.”

Back in February Lorde’s collaborator and producer Joel Little confirmed he and Lorde were about to get cracking on the follow-up to Pure Heroine, and would be getting into the studio with the young star “to start writing some songs.”

In fact, he recently confirmed to Billboard that they have already written a couple of songs together, but have yet to nail down the production. “We just want to make sure the songs are really good and try and experiment with some new things.. just different beats and whatever occurs in the studio.”
